The company prides itself on creating high-quality, durable, user-friendly, and most importantly, safe products for kids and pets. This means you can buy with confidence, knowing you will be getting the best that’s available.
The play yard is certified by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA). Its panels are constructed from toxin-free scratch-resistance plastic.
The play yard is safe to use on any indoor floor surface, including carpet, tiles or hardwood, without fear of marking these. If you place a mat beneath it, it can be set up on just about any outdoor surface. Being weather-resistant, it can be left outside if desired.

North States Playard Key Features
- Safe
12 skid-resistant pads anchor the play yard’s panels securely to the surface it is placed on. You won’t have to fear it tipping over, even if your toddler uses it to pull him or herself up. The pads will also protect your floor from scuffs and scratches.
The gaps between the panels are wide enough that your child’s fingers and toes won’t get caught, but not so wide as to pose a safety risk. There are no horizontal pieces that could act as a foothold, so your child won’t be able to pull themselves up and out of the enclosure.
- Expandable
One of the most appreciated features of the North States Superyard is its ability to expand and change shape. While the standard size utilizes six panels, by purchasing the extender you can enlarge it to give your infant more room to play or move around in.
- Configurable
Larger than a traditional child’s playpen and more flexible, the six easy-to-attach panels can be configured to virtually any shape, including square, rectangular and circular. If available space is small, you can use fewer panels. When your child is bigger or if they have a playmate visiting and more room is required, you can add extra panels.
NB Some parents place the panels lengthwise to prevent their baby from accessing areas that are off-limits to them. This works as a visual deterrent, but it is not something the manufacturer recommends, as there are no mounting brackets to support the structure. Some people purchased two Playards, connecting them. While this is certainly possible, keep in mind, the resulting structure will not be as stable.
- Door
The North States Superyard Ultimate Playard has an easy-access-door that has a safety latch and a lock.
To open the door, slide the latch back and lift and push the door outwards. To close the door, reverse this action. Adults should be able to do this with one hand.
- Warranty
As with all of North States’ play yards and security gates, the North States Superyard comes with a Limited 1-Year Warranty.
Pros
The North States Superyard has a lot of great features that have made it a very popular choice with parents.
-
Safe
Stability was a priority when designing the play yard. It would be an excellent purchase for people whose yard has uneven terrain, causing them concern for their toddler’s safety.
It would also be ideal for anyone with an infant who is learning to walk. At this stage of their development, kids will pull themselves up with and hold onto anything available until they are steady on their feet. They will be able to do that with this play yard, without you fearing it will topple over and injure them.
If your child is a little older and becoming adventurous, you can relax knowing that the play yard’s door is very secure. While easy for adults to open and close, babies and young toddlers find it virtually impossible, and older toddlers would find it extremely difficult. For added peace of mind, there is also a lock.
As with all of North States’ products, their play yards pass US government standards for VOCs, PVCs, lead and other heavy metal content. Made of non-toxic polypropylene, the pigment of the North States Playard is free of all heavy metals, Phthalates, PVCs, and BPA. This makes it safe if your teething baby or puppy chews on it.

Easy Assembly and Disassembly
Consisting of folded, pre-connected interlocking panels that slot together, the North States Superyard is very easy to put together.
Incorporating a pin and plunger system, all you will need to do is lift the panels, open the first one, and arrange the others in the configuration you want. They will automatically lock into place. To join the two open end panels, press them downwards. The pins on either side will then slide securely into the plunger.
Disassembling the Playard is simply a matter of reversing this action, folding the panels in alternating directions as you go.
-
Convenient Storage and Transportation
Folded flat, the Playard will fit into most closets for storage. It is quite light, and it has a carry handle. This makes it easy to take to the park, the beach, or a friend’s house for a play date.
To attach the carry strap, slip one end through the mesh of the two outside panels.
-
Easy to clean
To clean the play yard, wipe over it with a soapy cloth.
Cons
-
Door
A number of purchasers said they find it difficult to open and close the door with one hand. This does become easier with practice.
-
Rigidity
The vast majority of North States Playard purchasers agree that it is very stable. A small number, however, said they would have liked the panels to be more rigid.
